Supplies:
- Fish tank filled with water
- Sheets of tin foil
- Duct tape
- A lot of pennies.
- Scissors
How to Play:
Break students up into teams of 3-6 people. Give each team a sheet of tin foil, a small amount of duct tape (around 6 inches worth, or a foot), and a pair of scissors. Tell them to build the best boat possible. When the boats are finished, have one team come up and put their boat in the tank. One by one, drop pennies into/onto their boat (and keep count of how many pennies as you go!) until their boat sinks. Then do the next team's boat the same way, and so on and so forth with the other teams' boats. Whatever team has the boat that held the most pennies before sinking wins.
It's not a fast paced, fun, chaotic game but it's a good game, especially if your youth group has personalities that would enjoy this more than chugging milk until they threw up.
Pro Tips:
- Set a time limit for boat building. 5 minutes should suffice.
- Make a rule that the boat must float in the water (they can't attach it to the side of the tank via hooks or span their sheet of tinfoil across the whole top of the thank.
